What is a test email address?
A real address you use instead of a personal one when testing signups, verification, password resets, and notifications. Inceptmail gives every project its own private, permanent test email addresses, so test mail never touches a personal inbox.
How is Inceptmail different from Mailtrap or Mailpit?
SMTP sandboxes such as Mailtrap and Mailpit capture mail by having your app send to their SMTP server, which means changing your SMTP settings. Inceptmail is a real address that receives email from anywhere, so it also works with third-party services and environments where you cannot repoint SMTP. It only receives, and it does not capture outbound SMTP.
Can I use it for staging, QA, and automated tests?
Yes. Create one project per environment and share inboxes with your QA team. For automated tests, put a stable address in your Playwright or Cypress fixtures and inspect what arrived in the dashboard. There is no public API yet.
How long are messages kept?
Messages are kept for 7 days on the Free plan and 90 days on Pro, then deleted automatically. Your addresses never expire, only the mail inside them ages out.
What happens when I reach the monthly email limit?
Free includes 500 received emails a month and Pro includes 10,000, counted across all your projects. We notify you at 80% and again at the limit. After that, new mail is not stored until the count resets. It resets every month, on your billing date on Pro and on your sign-up anniversary on Free.
How is this different from a temp-mail site?
Temp-mail addresses are shared, public, and expire. Inceptmail addresses are private to your account and stay yours until you delete them, so the same address works today and next month.
Can I send email from Inceptmail?
No, it is receive-only. Inceptmail is where the email your app sends lands, so you can read and inspect it. It is not a sending service.
Who can read my messages?
Only you, plus teammates you explicitly grant access to, one inbox at a time. Message subjects, bodies, senders, and headers are encrypted at rest with AES-256.
What happens when I delete an inbox or project?
It is scheduled for permanent deletion and can be restored for 24 hours. Until then it still counts toward your plan limits and keeps its address reserved.
What happens if I move from Pro back to Free?
You choose which project and inboxes stay active. The rest become read-only until you upgrade again or free up room.
Do I need to change my app's email configuration?
Only the recipient. Use your inbox address wherever your app sends test email, in fixtures, seed data, or automated tests, and nothing else about your setup changes.
